Hainan Creates An International Example Of Lijin Technology Protection And Inheritance, And Strengthens Overseas Dissemination Of Lijin Culture

In December 2024, the traditional textile, dyeing, weaving and embroidery skills of the Li nationality (referred to as Li brocade skills for short) will be transferred from the list of intangible cultural heritage in urgent need of protection to the list of representative works of intangible cultural heritage of mankind. In the next five years, Hainan will further strengthen the protection, inheritance and innovative development of Li brocade skills, create an international example of Li brocade skills protection and inheritance, and strengthen the overseas dissemination of Li brocade culture.

The above information is disclosed in the Five Year Action Plan for the Protection and Development of the Traditional Textile, Dyeing, Weaving and Embroidery Skills of the Li Nationality (2025-2029) released by the General Office of Hainan Provincial People's Government on March 7.

According to the plan, in order to create an international example of the protection and inheritance of Li brocade skills, Hainan will include the Regulations on the Protection and Development of the Traditional Textile, Dyeing, Weaving and Embroidery Skills of the Li Nationality in the "Fifteenth Five Year Plan" legislative plan. It strives to become the first legislative project in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and an excellent example of international intangible cultural heritage protection. We will promote the creation of a national cultural and ecological protection experimental zone for tropical rainforests in Hainan. Strengthen the overall protection of national intangible cultural heritage representative projects such as Li brocade skills, Li boat shaped house building skills, Li primitive pottery making skills, Li folk songs, Li bamboo and wood instrumental music, and Hainan Miao Panhuang dance.

Hainan will also strengthen the brand activity of "Hainan Splendid World Intangible Cultural Heritage Week". Invite the representative projects of intangible cultural heritage of textile printing, dyeing and embroidery techniques listed in UNESCO to participate in, create an international stage for the release of new beautiful textile products, and build an exhibition and exchange platform for intangible cultural heritage.

In order to improve the protection and inheritance system of Li brocade skills, Hainan will strengthen the investigation and record of Li brocade skills, strengthen the digital protection of Li brocade skills, and build a provincial comprehensive database of Li brocade skills. Strengthen international exchanges and cooperation, guide Lijin enterprises to actively carry out cross-border e-commerce, further expand overseas market sales, encourage Lijin enterprises to actively apply for and assess Class I export enterprises, make good use of national export tax rebate policies, and increase foreign export trade.

In order to expand the dissemination of Li brocade culture, Hainan will create a public brand of Li brocade, strengthen the overseas dissemination of Li brocade culture, and support Li brocade enterprises, representative inheritors of intangible cultural heritage, etc. to participate in Paris Fashion Week, China International Fashion Week, Shanghai Fashion Week and other well-known shows at home and abroad. Utilize the international publicity and marketing resources of culture and tourism to form a "cultural spokesperson group" of traditional Hainan featured crafts, dramas, music and dances, such as Lijin, Miao embroidery, Qiong opera, folk songs, and bamboo dance, to go out of Hainan and go global.
